Chances are, at all churches, in all of the world.... the proportions of sugar and carbs are often going to be the same at these functions. Thankfully the larger the group, there will usually be a few people there who desire to be healthy and bring healthy options. I was thrilled someone brought a fruit platter. And Someone brought some of the most delicious guacamole I've had, and it was so simple!
I brought the veggie platter so I loaded up on that, along with the fantastic guacamole and a yummy apple! This had been all I'd eaten the whole day but thankfully due to fasting, I was less than ravenous. I seemed to have full ability to resist the options other than the healthy ones and my body is still thanking me for that. And I am thanking God for the strength to resist because it has taken a long time to build, especially at these group functions.
Moreover, there were chips to go with the guacamole, and it wasn't even a temptation! The veggies made a better option than any chip, with no sacrifice! They are crunchy and colorful and enjoyable on all levels including having a selection! I felt no deprivation (until they put the guacamole away haha.)
I can testify, you can still be social, have fun, and resist temptation! The best way to guarantee you have access to a healthy option when you go to these functions: Let that be your potluck contribution! Make sure YOU bring the healthy option!
